2016 - BEYOND SUCCESS: TW & EUGENE O'NEILL

The Festival began its second decade of programming by pairing lesser-known works by Williams with similarly underappreciated gems by another iconic American playwright: Eugene O’Neill. Audiences stepped through some of Williams’ more intriguing literary side doors, ending up in a small seaside bar for Small Craft Warnings, a desolate juke joint in East St. Louis for A Perfect Analysis Given by a Parrot, a nocturnal haunt on the other side of the world for In the Bar of a Tokyo Hotel, and the morally twisted avenues of Manhattan for Kirche Kuche Kinder (An Outrage for the Stage). Fans of Eugene O’Neill arrived into the underbelly of a luxury ocean liner (The Hairy Ape), a Cape Town rife with colonial drama (Desire Under the Elms), a dance-infused Russian portrait of love (Tango Christie), and a burlesque retelling of the life of Marco Polo (Marco Millions).
