About George Maurer

George Maurer is best known as one of Minnesota’s premier jazz pianists and his work as performer, arranger, and composer has taken him all over the world. He has shared the stage with Eric Clapton, arranged music for the Chiffons, and played for the Bill Clinton White House. George has created original compositions for orchestra and ballet, big band and Bobby Vee. He writes original scores for film, theater, and dance and has been called upon to arrange and produce music for an incredible diversity of projects including Twin Cities productions of “Swing!” and “Rent.” George thrives on the textures and layers of multidimensional work, where each note can set the mood for a song or scene. He’s in high demand as a performer and as a composer and producer, arranger and music director. For our 2012 festival George conducted his celebrated jazz ensemble in Autumn Song, an emotional song cycle of Maurer’s original settings of poetry by Tennessee Williams and the great German poet Rainer Maria Rilke, a lifelong inspiration to Williams. His passion for collaboration comes through in every note of every project he does. He is currently a music director and arranger for the Midtown Men.
