The Plexiglass Menagerieby Ryan Landry
starring Ryan Landry
Ryan Landry washed ashore in Ptown in the early 80’s,entering nightclub talent shows to earn his keep. Even then his drag act included short monologues he wrote for himself to perform. In 1987 he began to produce and host Showgirls!– the legendary Provincetown talent contest, now in its 20th year. His first full-length play, The Bunny Trail, performed in 2000 at Boston’s Dollhouse Theater, a space Landry built for himself and his theatrical company, The Gold Dust Orphans.
Landry’s sources are often the myths of old Hollywood, mixed with characters whose souls seem borrowed from classic Greek drama, though his own face comes straight from the era of the silent film. Self-taught as a playwright, he has studied,in detail, the work of Tennessee Williams and his parodies of Williams’ work - Pussy on the House and A T-Stop Named Denial - are among his most popular pieces. Larry Coen won an Eliot Norton award for his role in The Plexiglass Menagerie as the quirky courageous Laura.
